Few people know the true story of the little black dog that became the mascot and logo for the famous Black Dog restaurant and bakery on the island of Martha’s Vineyard. It all began on a blustery night when Captain Douglas was given an orphaned puppy by his friend, Eddie. The Captain had little choice but to give her a birth for the night... but only the night. He had no intention of keeping her. But as the story unfolds, this little orphaned pup wiggles and wags her way into the Captain’s heart... and into island history.

The Little Black Dog Buccaneer is a second book of adventures of the little puppy that was adopted by Captain Douglas of the schooner Shenandoah and became one of the most popular sea dogs in New England history. True to her name, this four-legged pirate can’t resist the booty to be found in garbage cans and back yards around the waterfront. And every port that Shenandoah visits offers new possibilities for a dog with an unquenchable curiosity and a spirit of adventure. Despite her pirating ways, the Little Black Dog once again redeems herself in the eyes of the Captain and his crew.

In this heartwarming tale, the bond between the Captain and the Little Black Dog grows stronger than ever. While the Little Black Dog tries to protect her new pups by hiding them, the Captain knows they may only survive the bitter New England weather if he can find them. They learn to trust each other as they work together to protect their new family, a new breed of puppies known as the Vineyard Whitefoot.
